Another fun, entertaining and suspenseful book from Nancy Campbell Allen。 I love that Eva, the main female character, was a strong independent woman。 She had a good back bone and a lot of sass。 I enjoyed the fact that the author knew or had researched a lot about early photography and incorporated it in the story as Eva’s employment。 Nathan was also an interesting character, the fact that he followed his passion for detective work, instead of relying on their family business was interesting。 The Another fun, entertaining and suspenseful book from Nancy Campbell Allen。 I love that Eva, the main female character, was a strong independent woman。 She had a good back bone and a lot of sass。 I enjoyed the fact that the author knew or had researched a lot about early photography and incorporated it in the story as Eva’s employment。 Nathan was also an interesting character, the fact that he followed his passion for detective work, instead of relying on their family business was interesting。 The story has a lot of twists and turns, a suspenseful plot and some great swoony romance。 What else could you want。 I highly recommend it。 。。。more

This book was awesome! I loved Eva and Nathan。 I also loved little Sammy。 There was romance, there was mystery, there was humor。 It was hard to put this down as I was enjoying it so much。 This is the second in the series and I can’t wait for the other cousins story。 Highly recommend!

Thank you to the publisher for an ARC of this novel in exchange for an honest review。 I did not read the first book in this series; however, I don't think that it's necessary to have read it before this one。Set in the 1800's, Eva Caldwell is a well known photographer who often documents crime scenes。 She is attracted to Detective Winston。One day Nathan shows up to ask a favor of Eva - would he photograph his mother's upcoming dinner party? Along the way, a criminal tries to upend their lives。Thi Thank you to the publisher for an ARC of this novel in exchange for an honest review。 I did not read the first book in this series; however, I don't think that it's necessary to have read it before this one。Set in the 1800's, Eva Caldwell is a well known photographer who often documents crime scenes。 She is attracted to Detective Winston。One day Nathan shows up to ask a favor of Eva - would he photograph his mother's upcoming dinner party? I’m here for murder mysteries that have me swoony over romance than blood。 I think Nancy Campbell Allen has the perfect touch of murder mystery meets romance and she delivers on both genres perfectly。 I loved that we get both POVs of our main characters。 And I’m here for fake relationships, but especially when we can get away with a fake relationship during historical England。 This is a Victorian romance that has elements of detective, fake dating, guy falls first, whodunit, conniving characters I’m here for murder mysteries that have me swoony over romance than blood。 I think Nancy Campbell Allen has the perfect touch of murder mystery meets romance and she delivers on both genres perfectly。 I loved that we get both POVs of our main characters。 And I’m here for fake relationships, but especially when we can get away with a fake relationship during historical England。 This is a Victorian romance that has elements of detective, fake dating, guy falls first, whodunit, conniving characters, sweet stolen moments (hello kisses), and two working class heroes。 Oh how I loved this book。 It just released and if audiobook is your thing, Justine Eyre is the narrator。*this is book 2, but it stands alone perfectly。 I don’t think you need to read the first to understand what is happening in this story。 However! I enjoyed the first book in Nancy Campbell Allen’s Matchmaker series and was happy to dig into book two, To Capture His Heart。 This book follows Eva, one of the cousins from book one。 The story gave me some Murdock Mysteries vibes, with a bit more romance。 I loved the trust Eva and Nathan have from the beginning of the story and how they work together。 I also enjoyed learning a bit more about photography during the Victorian time period。 Add in a cute kid, a dash of intrigue, and a house party, I enjoyed the first book in Nancy Campbell Allen’s Matchmaker series and was happy to dig into book two, To Capture His Heart。 This book follows Eva, one of the cousins from book one。 The story gave me some Murdock Mysteries vibes, with a bit more romance。 I loved the trust Eva and Nathan have from the beginning of the story and how they work together。 I also enjoyed learning a bit more about photography during the Victorian time period。 Add in a cute kid, a dash of intrigue, and a house party, and you have a cozy mystery perfect for this time of year。 *Thank you to Nancy Campbell Allen, Shadow Mountain, and Netgalley for an e-arc of this book。 All opinions are my own。 。。。more

This was adorable - the couple was obviously in love with each other and not shy about it。 Once they got through that first confession, they started saying "I love you" in the middle of conversations and I would just melt。 Absolutely adorable kiss scenes but no sex scenes。 I also really liked the mystery aspect of the book - it kept me engaged the entire time with it's nuances。 This was adorable - the couple was obviously in love with each other and not shy about it。 Once they got through that first confession, they started saying "I love you" in the middle of conversations and I would just melt。 Absolutely adorable kiss scenes but no sex scenes。 I also really liked the mystery aspect of the book - it kept me engaged the entire time with it's nuances。 。。。more

Title: To Capture His Heart Author: Nancy Campbell Allen Genre: RomanceRating: 4 out of 5I liked that this wasn’t just a romance novel: there was the mystery of what was happening with the criminal from Nathan’s past。 I absolutely adored Nathan’s four sisters and the family’s relationships, so that added another level of fun。 Eva is unconventional, but not blatantly so, and Nathan is open-minded enough to appreciate her fully。 This was a fun read。(Galley courtesy of Shadow Mountain Publishing in Title: To Capture His Heart Author: Nancy Campbell Allen Genre: RomanceRating: 4 out of 5I liked that this wasn’t just a romance novel: there was the mystery of what was happening with the criminal from Nathan’s past。 I absolutely adored Nathan’s four sisters and the family’s relationships, so that added another level of fun。 Eva is unconventional, but not blatantly so, and Nathan is open-minded enough to appreciate her fully。 This was a fun read。(Galley courtesy of Shadow Mountain Publishing in exchange for an honest review。) 。。。more

And which will win: Eva's head, or her heart? An enjoyable sweet romance with a side (or backdrop?) of mystery。 With an entertaining host, a mysterious villain, a detective who's desperate to keep those he cares about safe, an independent young photographer who's yet to work out what she wants, and an amusing cast of fellow house-guests, not to mention young Sammy, this is a delightful character-driven story, and the mystery that hovers in the background from the start adds a great touch。 If you're looking for a mystery that focuses on the mystery, this isn't it, but if you like a hint of mystery in your romance, this definitely delivers。 I enjoyed watching Nathan and Eva coming to terms with their supposedly fake relationship and working out what they want it to be, and the mystery made for a great background。 A good story - 4。5 stars。Note that I received a complimentary copy of the book from NetGalley。 I was not required to write a positive review and this is my considered opinion of the book。 。。。more

I enjoyed Book 2 of this series just as much as the first。 I 💗 the slow burn and sweetness of this romance。 Eva and Nathan (Detective Winston) are great partners in solving this mystery and as a couple。 😍 Can’t wait for the third。

I did not like this book, which is disappointing because the reviews I read made it sound so interesting。There was way too much exposition and “telling” instead of “showing。” The author would give details about filler movements, but then make tiny jumps during action scenes that left me confused。 And the characters were weirdly omniscient。The romantic tension dissolved by chapter 10。The mystery was vague。

Alright this has been one of my favorite books this year so far! I absolutely loved everything about it! We have up first the beautiful and ever so kind Eva Caldwell who is not only a photographer but also occasionally photographs crime scenes with an adorable orphan boy, Sammy, that she took in。 Like what?! She is such a strong and lovable character that I couldn't help but root for! Plus did I already mention that there is a murder。 No? Okay well there is murder and a creepy stalker dude that freaked me out a bit but only because I was by a dark window。 (If you read it then you'll know what im talking about)。 It's the perfect book that combines my love of historical romance and murder mysteries! Will she survive with her heart intact? I loved this romantic mystery! Nathan & Eva have a fun relationship stemming from true friendship & admiration。 Their slow burn romance is achingly lovely。 I loved her tying his cravat, the maze scene, and hiding in the butler’s pantry。 The mystery definitely kept me guessing。 There’re plenty of suspects, motivations, “mean girls” you love to hate, and an evil villain hiding in their midst。 I have to admit I didn’t see the ending coming and was hurriedly turning the pages to find out what would happen next。I also enjoyed getting to know Nathan’s sisters & mother。 They are each so kind and supportive。 I loved the way they befriend and rally around Eva。 It was also fun to see Eva’s assistant Sammy again。Highly recommend this amazing, romantic mystery! He also asks her if she would pretend they are courting in order for Nathan to avoid the many available women seeking his attention。 Though wary of it, Eva agrees。 She gets to spend a week with her favorite detective and her camera。 Soon after the party events begin, a criminal from Nathan's past threatens revenge。 Nathan must be extra vigilant to keep his family and the rest of the guests safe。 He confides in Eva and the two work to solve the case and apprehend the criminal。 Can they catch the criminal in time? Can Eva heal by letting Nathan into her heart? First of all, I’ve read many books by Nancy Campbell Allen and I love her writing! Overall, I loved this book! Historical romance is one of my favorite genres。 I loved Nathaniel’s character。 He was honorable and just but also honest。 I loved that he was kind but would also say how he really felt。 He was a fun character。 The romancing started a little quicker than I was expecting, but I really enjoyed that they had many long talks with each other and were able to build up that friendship。 I really liked that Eva worked as a photographer。 I’m not sure about the mean girls plot。 It seemed like it wasn’t as explored why Eva was made fun of when she was younger and then again as an adult。 I wasn’t as into that storyline, but I loved everything else。 I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys clean Victorian romances with a side of murder mystery! 。。。more
